Rain forest in the Amazon cleared by fire for cattle and soy plantations in Para State, Brazil.
Daniel Beltrá photgrapher. He brings the sensibility and craft of a news photographer to the fields of nature and the environment, making images which he hopes will spur greater respect and conservation of those subjects.
He has documented several expeditions by Greenpeace to the Brazilian Amazon, the Arctic, the Southern Oceans and the Patagonian Ice Fields, among many others.
In 2006, Daniel received awards from the World Press Photo (WPP) and China International Press Photo contests for his work on drought in the Amazon. In 2007, he won again in the WPP for photos of the Amazon.
I do what’s called “pitch” ancient forests.
I just think everyone should know about two weeks ago Kimberly Clark (the makers of cottonelle, cotex, and kleenex) quit clear cutting ancient forests in Canada (the Boreal) and are now using sustainable tree farms and recyled materials to make their products. Thanks KC. after five years, you showed you have a soul.
As of a few days ago Nike and Timberland stopped clear cutting in the Amazon to make way for cattle farms for leather, they’re now also using FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) regulations.
As of !!!yesterday!!! Adidas and Reebok joined their friends Nike and Timberland.
THIS IS HUGE. MASSIVE. IMPORTANT. At least I think so.
Make sure you’re using FSC certified products. It’s important. And not as hard now that these major companies are part of making our’s a better world. Every little part counts. And I believe that now.
